Can you remember?

when you first heard for raymond victor franz?

and who told you about him?.

in my case, one special pioneer, who still serves as a special pioneer, asked me litterally this:.

I remember there was a month when the Commentary on James book (which was penned by RF for the WTS) was the Offer for the Month. It seemed strange that an obsure 192 page book which had been printed 10 years earlier would be the offer, when we normally would offer a book that would be used in a Bible Study.

At that stage I had no idea it was written by Ray Franz. I doubt any of us in the cong did.

I remember as an adult JW hearing that a GB member had left the organization, but the details were very vague. It wasn’t until I started doing research on the net that I found out who he was.

One thing I learnt after I left the JWs was that “worldly” people aren’t the evil, lying, adultering, thieving people I was brought up to believe. Most people are normal – they love their families, they care for their friends, they even offer support to strangers. People are actually – nice!

My Dad wanted to call my sister Jael, but eventually went with a name my mother chose.

My real first name is from the Bible. I often get compliments on it because it’s one you don’t hear these days.

i'm a big fan of mr. raymond franz and read both of his books a number of times.

does anyone here think maybe he didn't tell everything he knew.

for legal reasons and will expose more than he has told before , since the wts can't touch him after he dies.

over at freeminds we didn't want this day to pass without some recognition of the life and death of ray franz.

in view of his stated wishes not to have a memorial or service we hoped for something that he would have liked for all of us to take a moment over.. .

we owe a note of thanks to v for his graphics work and atjeff for the obituary writing - i know neither of them need mentioned by me.. .

at the hall i attended in the mid to late 70's the presiding overseer in our cong.

was a real hard nosed little man with control issues.

I remember changing the answers just before they were corrected, and hoping Jah wouldn’t hold it against me.

apparently it was painless and without trauma for him.. he deserved that.. .

That’s very true. I’ve had family members die from cancer and there’s nothing as horrible, with no guarantee of a positive outcome. Or he could have had Alzheimer’s, and Cynthia would have had the burden of caring for a man who didn’t know who she was.

They say having a stroke starts with a really bad headache, so hopefully, if he did feel anything, that was all Ray would have felt before he became unconscious.

I also think of how lucky Ray and Cynthia were to have each other for so long. How many of us are either single, or unhappily married?

I would have loved to have heard Cynthia’s side of the story. She wasn’t df’d, but treated as such because of who she was married to. Which is just a sign of how the WTS views women in the Borg.

I think it’s a good idea to look at the positives when someone dies.

Weep not that he has died, but celebrate that he had lived.
